In Hong Kong, the Hang Seng Index was up 0.1% nearing the end of its trading session, while China's CSI 300 closed 1.12% higher at 3,439.81. Australia's S&P/ASX 200 added 0.86% to close at 7,829.7, despite a slight decline in consumer sentiment for July, contrasting with an earlier increase. Additionally, Australia's business confidence improved by 6 points to +4, according to the National Australia Bank. US The S&P 500 reached a new high on Tuesday following remarks from Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell cautioning against prolonged high interest rates. The index edged up 0.07% to 5,576.98, marking its 36th record close of the year. Meanwhile, the Nasdaq Composite rose 0.14% to finish at 18,429.29, also achieving a record high for the day. Both indices hit fresh all-time peaks during the trading session. In contrast, the Dow Jones Industrial Average declined by 52.82 points, or 0.13%, closing at 39,291.97. Commodity On Tuesday, oil prices dropped over 1% for the third consecutive day, with concerns easing over significant damage to Gulf Coast production and refining infrastructure from Tropical Storm Beryl. Meanwhile, gold prices remained relatively unchanged as the dollar stayed strong and Treasury yields slightly rose. Investors awaited U.S. June inflation data later in the week for insights into the trajectory of U.S. interest rates. Spot gold saw a modest increase of 0.24% to $2,364.39 per ounce, recovering from a decline of more than 1% in the previous session. U.S. gold futures also edged up by 0.2% to $2,367.80.
