
When I saw the FCA warning about a clone broker pretending to be Fortrade, it honestly gave me chills – because a few months earlier, that could have been me. As a beginner, if a website looked professional, used a famous broker’s name, and flashed banners like “0.0 spreads”, I just assumed it was legit. I had no idea there were fake “Fortrade-style” sites out there copying logos, claiming random licenses in the UK, US, or Seychelles, and even waving around a FinCEN registration that doesn’t actually regulate forex. Looking back, I realise how close I came to wiring my savings to the wrong place simply because I didn’t bother to check the exact domain and licence number on the FCA register and compare it with the real Fortrade.
If you’re just starting out like me, please don’t repeat my almost-mistake. Don’t let a clean UI, pretty colours and “regulated” buzzwords be the reason you trust a broker with your money. Always:

Look up the broker directly on the regulator’s website (FCA, ASIC, CySEC, etc.),

Check that the URL and legal name match exactly, and

Use third-party tools like BrokersView to double-check what regulation they really have.
Losing trade is part of learning. But finding out your “broker” was a clone from day one? That’s the kind of lesson that can wipe you out before you even truly start.
